"After our son, Owen, was diagnosed with a congenital heart defect, our relationship with the Children's Hospital of Wisconsin began. They not only helped us to prepare for his birth, but also the biggest challenge we would have to face - Owen's first open heart surgery. We felt taken in by the Cardiologists and staff at the Herma Heart Center especially, but the entire hospital as well. Owen successfully made it through his surgery at 4 months old and hasn't looked back since. When we received the Al's Run information that summer, my husband, Gary, and I felt an overwhelming gratitude for the wonderful people who helped us through a difficult time and wanted to give back to them and provide as much as we could for them to keep their great work going. We started our own team for Al's Run and also pledge-raised online mostly through our own network of friends, family, and colleagues. We dedicated our team to Owen, but really felt so grateful to CHW that he is with us today. We only hope for a better turn out this year!" Courtney Gawryleski Outing for Owen
"We have always enjoyed Briggs and Al’s Run, and had participated for many years. Then our daughter was born and we had a new perspective, and our commitment was even stronger. We cannot adequately express our gratitude for the wonderful care Katie receives. We want to give back, give thanks, and make sure the hospital has everything needed for the next child." "Our son became very ill in 2003 and spent 78 days at CHW. As a result of his illness he lost both kidneys and he subsequently received a kidney transplant at CHW in 2004. Without the hospital there is no question Max would not be with us today and as a result we are fully committed to raise awareness and funds for the hospital."
